After stroke or injury
Communication difficulties following stroke or brain injury can touch every part of life: conversations with family, medical appointments, returning to work, using the phone, or simply feeling like yourself again. Some people describe changes in talking, listening, reading, writing, or the language in their head when they think; others notice voice or speech clarity changes, or fatigue that makes communication harder across the day.
Our role is to help you and the people close to you find a way forward that feels realistic and respectful. Sessions are paced gently, collaboratively, and grounded in evidence, with plenty of space for the emotions that naturally sit alongside rehabilitation.
We can often see people in clinic or at home across Devon when travel or energy makes that the better option, tell us what would work for you.
Working together
We work alongside other professionals wherever that helps — and we recognise that carers and relatives often benefit from clarity about what supports communication day to day.
We specialise in communication rather than swallowing assessment. If feeding or swallowing is your main concern, we can often signpost you to colleagues who specialise in dysphagia so you receive the safest, most targeted support.
If communication and wider rehab questions sit together, still get in touch — we can advise on pathways.
Aphasia & language processing
Difficulty finding words, following fast speech, reading, spelling, or feeling “stuck” in conversation.
We work on strategies and practice that bridge the gap between what you understand and what you can get out smoothly.
Speech clarity & motor speech
When stroke or injury affects muscles used for speech, or the planning of speech movements, therapy may focus on breath support, articulation practice, pacing, keywords, or alternative ways to convey important messages reliably.
Cognitive-communication skills
Memory, attention, organisation, reasoning, social interaction, and conversational flow can all overlap with communication.
We tailor goals to meaningful activities such as outings, texting family, hobbies, volunteering, or planning the week ahead.
